Little Changes

Vest- Topshop, Trousers-old, Shoes- Topshop, Necklace- Primark

Hey Guys!

Just a quick post tonight as I’ve been working on ideas for future posts this evening. The title of today’s post basically refers to an article I read in John Lewis Edition magazine earlier this week. Recently I’ve been considering some making some small amendments in my life. These are things that I’ve wanted to do for a while but never really pushed myself whilst I lived in my comfort zone at home. This article basically gave examples of how small changes in your life can really improve your happiness and well being.

The main things I’m looking to achieve in the near future are:

1. I want to take up yoga and learn to meditate- I’m really hoping to improve my stress levels and maybe this will help me look at the world differently.

2. I want to bring more DIY into my blog- as much as I love a style or beauty blog I know I have creativity that I need to channel into something material which is something I haven’t done in a while. Now to decide what to make….

Thanks for reading everyone! Goodnight!

Ellie Goulding// Glamour Magazine inspired make up

Hey Everyone!

After a conversation with one of my besties last weekend regarding our love for pink eyeshadow, I decided to give this look a try. I also read the latest issue of Glamour magazine last weekend featuring Ellie Goulding (above) which is maybe how the conversation came about… I forget if I’m honest…

I would have liked to use a cream eyeshadow (if I owned one) but my friend had also suggested using the same blush on your eyes as your cheeks so I’ve used my everyday blusher: Benefit’s Dandelion as a base and layered a few different shades on top to create a bolder eye colour. Benefit’s High Beam is on my cheek and brow bones. I didn’t want heavy coverage so I’ve used Aveda Inner Light Tinted Moisturiser instead of foundation, which has photographed better than I had anticipated. The shadow used to define my brows is paler than usual as Ellie’s brows are fairly blonde and I’ve elongated mine in a similar fashion. If I was wearing this look for an evening out I’d opt for a set of false lashes; probably something sharp similar to Ellie’s.

I’d be interested to know what you think of pink toned eyeshadows??

Have a wonderful evening!

little lifesaver- clinque

Good Evening Everyone!

Basically I cannot express in words how much this has improved my skin. But I will try.

A little back story: I’ve suffered from seriously dry, dehydrated skin pretty much since I got over my spotty teenage phase. Now as a teenager I would have welcomed the idea of no spots in return for a few dry patches of skin. Little did I know that dry skin is so much more unforgiving. I’ve tried product after product to create some sort of moisture, hoping that one day I could apply a foundation and not look instantly scaly. In the end my mother got fed up of my moaning and presented me with a small gift. She bought me Clinique 3 Step Skin Care Introduction kit in Type 2 (for dry combination skin). It’s available from my employer John Lewis for £20 but it’s also available in Boots at the same price (and probably most Clinique stockists I’m guessing). I also received a free gift (above) Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief. This is literally the best skincare product I have ever used- it clears painful dry patches up so fast!

Clinique claim that it takes about 2 weeks to see ‘clear, smooth, radiant skin’; I’ve been using it for around 4 weeks now and couldn’t agree more. It also lasts really well so I’d say it’s completely worth the £20 and personally would be willing to pay more. The only criticism I have is that I don’t think the ratio of moisturizer is very good compared to the other products- there’s only 30ml compared to 100ml of clarifying lotion; so I’ll probably have to buy more separately.

But all in all highly recommended for problematic skin.

PS excuse my horrible nails.

Thanks for reading!

70’s Inspiration

Dress- Topshop Sale (no longer available), Boots- New Look, Hat- Primark (old), Rings-Primark, Watch- Urban Outfitters

Hey Everyone!

So I arrived back from Newcastle last night, looking incredibly tired but I had a wonderful time reuniting with my family and friends! I actually did daily outfit photos while I was there… apologies if the pictures came out really bad my brother took them for me and couldn’t really see what he was taking due to his bad eyesight (I think he’s done alright though!). I haven’t been able to upload any of this stuff as I didn’t take my laptop and there wasn’t any photo editing software at my mother’s house so I kind of have a backlog of outfit posts. I don’t really want to upload them one after another as I’d like to write about more than simply what I’m wearing on here…if that makes sense?

I absolutely love this dress that I managed to find in the Topshop sale for £15 (it’s no longer available online but maybe in store?). The fabric has such a lovely silky feeling and I’m a bit obsessed with the print. I’ve been finding a lot of influence in films set around the late 60s/ early 70s lately so I guess that’s why I like it.

I’d also like to say Hi to anyone who’s recently started reading my blog and that I really appreciate this!

Have an amazing afternoon whatever you’re up to!

Extreme Gel Liner

Hey guys!

I bought a new gel liner this week so I thought I’d do a make up look using it. I’ve done something different to what I’d usually do, which is generally a 50s style feline eye. For this look I used the liner as a base and created the extreme winged shape- a lot easier to achieve than with a powder eye shadow. I then layered black and gunmetal eye shadow on top and blended around the edges. As I’m getting slightly obsessed with brights this summer I’ve used a pale pink to blend into my brow bone and underneath my eyes and a frosty pink gloss on my lips.

I was actually planning to get a Topshop gel liner as I’ve heard really good reviews but my local Topshop don’t stock the make up range unfortunately! Bobbi Brown is out of my price range until payday so I bought my old favourite Loreal (above). I bought it from Boots for just under a tenner but its available in Superdrug and big supermarkets too. I’m not a fan of the brush that comes with it for precise lines but the liner has really good staying power and I never need to reapply it.

I’m getting really inspired by a lot of beauty articles lately so I’d like to do more of these looks and maybe some face paint and special effects make up- which is something I haven’t done much of before.

So until next time…. Goodnight, have an amazing weekend!

old clothes

Hey Everyone!

So it’s a little late for this but basically this is what I got up to this weekend… not massively thrilling but I’m heading home this weekend  as I have 4 days off which I’m super excited for! I also still need to get round to sorting out my page design but it just seems like a huge chore right now…

Cami/vest- River Island (old), Trousers- Topshop , Trainers- Nike (old but similar available), Watch- Michael Kors (old), Rings- Primark

Chris looking freakishly wrinkly- I just don’t know….

The huge beer list- these are ALL beers!
As I’m really skint right now due to moving house and holidays; I’ve been trying to wear old clothes in a way I wouldn’t have before so I’ve dug out my Nike Air Max and paired them with some tailored trousers. I’m really loving that simple Scandinavian look right now although I’m not achieving it anywhere near as well as some of the guys on Lookbook.

My outfit posts are taken in Duthie Park but I just thought I’d add a few pictures from the amazing bar 6 degrees North which specializes in beers- I’ve honestly never seen a selection like it. I actually really don’t drink beer under normal circumstances but I tried a cherry beer which was so good! We also got a mezze platter to eat, unfortunately I didn’t capture this moment but their homemade chutney was also so lovely.

I’m aware beer isn’t gluten free but it was a one off and on that subject after much research I bought some Genius Bread. For anyone who suffers from gluten intolerance or just wants to eat healthier I literally couldn’t fault it so I’ve just linked their page!

Have a lovely evening whatever you’re up to!!

yellow smokey eyes

So I’ve had a bit of a sad week since I returned from Berlin. There’s no reason in particular I guess I’m just feeling a little homesick. To cheer up I’ve spent some time doing some bright make up looks on myself- this actually doesn’t look so bright but I did intend to be a yellow smokey eye. I’ve seen yellow eye shadow everywhere lately and I’ve just used a blend of two from my college palette (I did a fashion photography make up course a while back). I definitely feeling like I’ll be investing in a bright palette when pay day comes around now- one with a stronger pigment. I actually really like the yellow with this MAC lipstick so I think this purchase is very necessary.

I also did a look inspired by the make up of my teenage years but I don’t think I’m brave enough to post that one online as it’s not at all flattering….in the slightest. Even Chris was taken back by that one. I should be out and about in Aberdeen tomorrow so I’ll try and get some pictures of what I’m up to.

Until next time…. Happy Weekend!!

PS I’m trying to sort out my background but my drawing pens have ran out so my designs are on hold!

Berlin Trip in Clothing

Good Evening Internet!

So as I previously said or wrote (or whatever!) I’ve put together a little look book of my holiday outfits. Just a few notes though… I did actually have more than one pair of shoes with me but unfortunately my ugly Topshop sandals completely wrecked my feet (which was incredibly sad as I love any sort of ugly footwear so so so much) I will attempt to wear them again but maybe with socks for extra ugliness? I don’t know….. Also I look really miserable in most of these pictures so yeah sorry about that but they were the pictures where you could see my clothing best. I’ll try to note where I got my everything from as that’s what people do in these sort of posts but some of it is like really old (my leather jacket for example is nearly 7 years old!!)
Shirt- Urban Outfitters, T shirt- Primark, Jeans- Zara, Chelsea boots- New Look, Necklace- Primark

Hat- Primark, Jumper, trousers and sandals- Topshop, Bag- Oh my love
 Leather jacket and dress- Topshop

Necklace and T shirt- Primark, Watch- Michael Kors

Dungarees- Marks and Spencer, Vest- Primark, Bag- River Island

So that’s all for now… Goodnight!

Berlin…Summer 2014

Greetings Internet!

I’ve recently returned from Berlin and as I promised myself, I’m posting some pictures. In reality I took a ridiculous amount of holiday photos
(I have managed to cut them down to about 200 on my computer) so I didn’t want to do a photo overload on my blog. We managed to see so much of Berlin yet I could have spent a month there and still not have seen it all! As can be witnessed here; we saw plenty of street art (an obsession of mine- even though I’m not cool enough to do it myself), the most amazing food selection I’ve ever ever seen at Ka De We department store, various art galleries and ancient history museums and we even ran into the Gay Pride parade which I was so hoping we would!

I’m just getting myself back to reality now and ready for work tomorrow. My doctor also informed me that I have a mild gluten intolerance shortly before I went away so I’m trying to get used to living gluten free since returning which is pretty challenging. I think I’ll do a holiday look book tomorrow evening if I get time so until then…. Goodnight!

Making things

My first weekend in Aberdeen is over. My mother came to visit me so that I had some to have a wander round with and get my bearings. We also went to the seaside and I have some pictures of this that I might upload… My only reservation right now is that the seagulls around here are pretty terrifying! I also managed to get this pair of shorts put together at some point during the weekend; they actually started life from a pattern for a ‘sexy’ Halloween dress: who would have guessed it? Anyway as you can see my camera has trouble capturing anything that isn’t a close up (I’ve owned it for nearly 2 years and still not figured out why so I’m starting to think it’s broken- if anyone out there knows why this is happening I’d love to know!(except the fact that I might just be stupid)). But yeah I took the close up as due to the blurring it’s hard to make out how gathered these are and just how much fabric is involved. I’ll be off to Berlin this week so I’ll probably do a holiday post soon.
