Classic Red Lip and Winged Liner Make Up Look

make-up-3make-up

Hello Lovelies.  It’s been a while since my last post but time just feels like it flies by so quickly lately that I barely have time to blog. I also really wanted to do a post linked to a brand new YouTube video- my second ever you know! So here we are with another make up look. This one is super simple although you wouldn’t think it from the list of products. In my opinion its a bit of a classic. Plus I wanted to experiment creating the perfect red lip and try out my new NYX lip liner. FYI it’s awesome especially for a mere £5.  I have been experiencing some technical issues with filming so here’s to hoping I’ll get that all sorted out and can use my new camera soon. Enjoy… make-up-2make-up-5

Dyeing My Hair With Henna

henna henna2 henna5

|Henna Hair Dye– Lush|

Having been an avid user of home hair dyes for almost as long as I can remember (I was 13 when I last saw my natural hair colour FYI) my hair has started to react badly to the dyeing process. I mean I’ve had a mane every colour under the sun at some point- yes including bright blue.  So after a lot of fretting and some serious consideration. I decided to try something more natural than your average at home box dye.

My friend Rachel has been using Henna for a while and I really think that her hair looks a lot thicker. A few weeks ago I popped into Lush and got my hands on some. Henna has been used to dye hair for thousands of years.  Apparently its supposed to be conditioning and also promote hair growth as oppose to chemical dyes which can be damaging. Believe me I know! Lush currently stock four different shades. I went for Brun or Hot Chocolate as it gives you the shade closest to my natural colour. As with all hair dye it can create different effects depending what colour your own hair is. For example if you have very light hair naturally some shades could go a vibrant red. So just bare that in mind.

Now I’m going to be totally honest in this post. Henna is a huge faff on to apply in comparison to your average box dye. Firstly it needs to be cooked, then cooled to a comfortable temperature and once it is ready to apply  it’s just so so so messy. Newspaper over entire surfaces is a must. It takes around three hours to develop. And I had to apply it twice within a week to get the vibrancy I required. Above is a little bonus photo of me with the Henna on- not very attractive right? For me, there was still as much breakage as there would be with your average dye although perhaps my hair is just that damaged…

But ultimately since using the Henna my hair’s condition is the best it’s been in such a long time. Super soft and super silky. Possibly making all the faff worth it. Swings and Roundabouts I guess!

Have you ever tried Henna? I’d love to know your thoughts.

Warm Toned Autumn Make Up Look

make-up make-up2

So I figured it had been such a long time since I’d done a make up post on here. I still love make up as much as ever so lets share the love. It’s also the first ever time I’ve branched out to film a little tutorial to go alongside my post. Yes it seems I’m moving with the times and getting acquainted with YouTube! I’ve actually wanted to try filming something for ages and  think video is by far the best media when it comes to make up tutorials. I don’t know about you but I find it super difficult to follow written instructions. Obviously my editing skills are terrible at this point so please be kind…

Of course I’ve gone for an Autumn inspired look- I mean what else would I really do? I’m all about the Autumnal posts right now. I absolutely love the Naked 2 palette for warm tones so really it was a no brainer. It’s got to be my favourite out of all the Naked palettes. Probably because its suits my colouring best. I’ve used MAC Lip Pencil  in Bittersweet all over my lips and then layered Nars Lip Pencil in Walkyrie over the top. I think it gives a really striking look and I do love a bold lip, especially for Autumn/ Winter. Although looking at these photos my lip liner looks super wobbly which makes me sad!

Princess Hair

hair3hair5 hair4hair8Human Hair Extensions– c/o Irresistible Me

Disclaimer: Trying this product out made me really miss my long hair and sob into my laptop a little as I edited these photos!

Hello Hello… And welcome back to another blog post! Today I have a little review based on hair extensions I was kindly asked to try out by Irresistible Me.  I’ve always been a big hair extension wearer and love nothing more than having long swishy princess hair so am a little biased anyway. I totally get that hair extensions aren’t everyone’s cup of tea though!

The hair extensions are all 100% human hair and come in a variety of colours/ weight / lengths.  This particular set believe it or not are actually the shortest at 14 inches long. As my hair is pretty short these days so I went for a length I could blend into it as it grew. There is a Pin to help you get an idea for the right length for you. With regards to weight of course I went for the thickest set at 200g which comes with 1 x 4 clips, 2 x 3 clips, 5 x 2 clips and 2 x 1 clip. The set also came with a few extra clips to attach in case you lose them (always happens!).  The colour I’m wearing is medium brown, although I was undecided between medium and chocolate brown. There’s this handy Video to help you choose your colour.

For me the quality of these extensions was great and they can offer you some seriously big hair. Especially using the 4 clip piece which is a mega hair extension, although I reckon it could get a bit heavy after a full night of wearing it. The only problem I have which goes for all clip in extensions is that I find it really difficult to get a good colour match for my natural hair. As I have quite a red toned brunette I can never seem to get a warm enough shade. I will of course be wearing these again!

Thoughts?

Sleek Highlighting Palette

Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette- Boots HERE

Let’s talk highlighters. Now I don’t know about you but I’ve always preferred highlighting way more than contouring. Maybe it’s because I love glowy glowy skin or maybe its down to my extreme paleness making contour look like weird oranges patches on my skin (no thanks!). Whatever the reason I love a good glow, especially for spring. So when I came across this little Sleek Solstice Palette in Boots I couldn’t resist it’s marbley goodness.

I’m a big Sleek fan anyway: I love their blushers, their packaging looks way pricier than it is, products come with a good sized mirror, they’re always super pigmented shades, all products are cruelty free … I could go on. So I’ve got to say after vigorous testing this is a new favourite of mine. It includes one cream highlighter (Ecliptic) one shimmer powder (Subsolar) and two baked powders (Hemisphere and Equinox). There’s also a brush included but honestly I never use the free brush so I can’t say that makes a lot of difference.

On the box Sleek suggest that you use the shades as follows: Ecliptic on the brow bone (I also used it on the inner corners of my eyes) Subsolar on the bridge of the nose, Hemisphere on the cheekbones and Equinox on the cupid’s bow. In reality the shades are a lot more pigmented than on camera and the individual colours really come through. My personal favourite is probably Subsolar (on my nose). Although I do really like the creamy texture of Ecliptic too which works really well for highlighting the corner of your eyes. Have you tried any Sleek products? Thoughts?

Cool Toned Winter Makeup

makeup2makeup makeup4makeup3

Hey Everyone! Just a quick makeup look tonight inspired by silvery, frosty winter tones… That makes sense in my head at least. On my eyes I have used shades Verve, Pistol and Blackout from my Naked 2 palette. I’ve got Illumasqua Intense Lipgloss in Facade on my lips. Plenty of highlighting to brighten up my under eyes and it’s as simple as that.

In other news only four more shifts until Christmas! This is the first time in about 5 years I’ve been able to spend more than one day with my family over Christmas so you could say I’m a tinyyyy bit excited right now…

Winter Purple Make Up

purplemakeup12purplemakeup10It feels really good to get a few beauty posts back on my blog. I think I can get a little bored of doing the same thing over and over, sometimes I even feel that i’m just doing outfits because I feel like it’s what other people want to see… Although I do think make up works a lot better in tutorial videos so that could be an idea to try out?

So I’ve just went for my classic base for this look and I have contoured using my Illumasqua Duo but it hasn’t translated very well on camera. Leaving me with a big round face- the joys! For my eyes I’ve used a mixture of shades from my MAC A Passionate Quest Quad and Loreal Gel Liner applied with my Zoeva Liquid Liner Brush. I’m wearing Eyelure 116s on my lashes. I have MAC Lipglass in Rebel on my lips; I always think its going to come out a lot darker but if you want a more dramatic look it can alternatively be applied over a purple toned lipstick.

Festive copper toned make up look

coppermakeup5coppermakeup2coppermakeupcoppermakeup13coppermakeup10coppermakeup9

It’s kind of been a long long time since I put a make up post on my blog. I think it’s my fear of uploading hugely zoomed in photos of my face to the internet that holds me back. Because let’s face it, unless you’re really good with Photoshop these photos ain’t gonna be flattering. No matter how good the lighting is. Trust me.

Anyway I’ve braved the camera and went for what else but a smokey coppery eye and some deep red lipstick. It is getting to the festive season after all! AND just FYI it’s been snowing today. So I’ve decided to mix things up and go for a different base to my usual old products. I’ve used Urban Decay Primer and Smashbox Liquid Halo Foundation which is a bit heavier than what I’m used to but works well on camera. On my eyes, I’ve taken Urban Decay Naked 2 and applied Half Baked all over my lid. I’ve used Chopper in the crease and underneath and Snakebite to add a bit more contrast. Naked 2 is my favourite of all the Naked palettes for my colouring. On my lips I’m wearing my (very) well loved MAC Viva Glam I and a little Topshop Velvet Lips in Velveteen  Ribbon as it gives a super matte finish. I do think a glossy lip would work really well with this look too if that’s your thing.

Let me know what your favourite look of the moment is!

BEAUTY // A little skincare haul

// Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish/ Liz Earle Muslin Cloths/ Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser/ Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment- All John Lewis.com //

So recently I decided to have a little skincare overhaul. We all need some change in our lives at times. I did this for a few very important reasons.. 1. I didn’t think my old routine was working out for me anymore 2. I wanted to introduce an eye cream- seeing as I’m getting old and all that y’know and 3. I’m absolutely committed (ok maybe a little obsessed) to sorting out my dry skin issues and not age prematurely.

Anyway after much research- because that’s the smart way to do things don’t you know! I decided to give Liz Earle a proper go. And the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment which was mostly because everyone raved about it…

I’ve been in my new routine for about 10 days now and I can express my love for the Kiehl’s eye cream. It details Avocado Oil as one of it’s main ingredients. I’d never previously considered using avocado on my face but turns out it works pretty well! The pot is pretty tiny but to be honest I’ve been applying it pretty liberally and have hardly used any of it yet, which is really good for the price.

The Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish is definitely gentler on my skin. I was previously using Clinque 3 step which can be quite harsh. However it is supposed to remove all make up (including mascara) and it just doesn’t budge my industrial strength mascara and eyeliner. I have to use make up remover first. I can’t say I’ve noticed an improvement in the dryness of my skin but I have been told to give skincare products at least 3 months to work their magic. I’ll keep you posted!

What are your skincare favourites? Recommendations?

Much Love xxx

Current Favourites // Nude Ombre Lips

Ok, so this might be a bit of a throw back to last year’s 90s trend but I really adore this make up look right now. I was inspired by one of the girls at my local MAC store who recommended trying this lip liner against my favourite nude lipstick. I had been trying to get my hands on a liner in Subculture– it’s more of a Kylie Jenner shade so when she offered me something so dark I was a bit confused!
To create this look, I start off by lining my lips and filling the majority of them in with liner except the centre. I then layer the lipstick and liner until I get a graduated shade. To finish I go around the shape of my mouth again so its pretty easy. I’ve tried to keep the rest of my make up super simple as this is such a bold look. You can even see my freckles as my base is so light.

What’s your favourite lip product right now?
