Liebster Award

Hey Everybody! I was recently tagged by the gorgeous Sophy Mynard from Crynard  (click for link!) to take part in the Leibster Award. It’s just basically a bunch of questions to answer and then pass on. Really useful for finding new blogs to look at! I loved the idea of answering questions and getting to know others a little better.  Here’s the questions Sophy asked me…
  1. Why did you start blogging? I started blogging as it was something I’d wanted to do for a long time. I moved to a new city where I didn’t really know anyone and thought I’d do something productive with my time. My job isn’t very creative and it’s important for me to have a creative outlet in my life!
  2. Who are your style inspirations and why? I spend a lot of time watching films, so I’d say I find inspiration from the characters of my favourite movies. I always look to the past and for a long time I’ve been loving the 90s look but recently I’m looking towards 60s stars such as Jane Birkin, Edie Sedgewick and Marianne Faithful. Also who doesn’t love a bit of Alexa??  shes my all time favourite inspiration!
  3. What would be your last meal? I’ve got a gluten allergy so I have to deny myself all the bready foods I love. Baring that in mind, I’d go for a flour based feast! Pizza, pasta, bread, pastries and lots and lots of cakes….
  4. What is your favourite song? This is such a difficult one as I love so many, I can’t even single one out when I scroll through my iPhone… I am listening to Oasis’s albumn Whats the story morning glory? while writing this- it’s a classic!
  5. What would you consider your staple piece of clothing? I would consider a good pair of trousers my staple piece of clothing, right now I’m wearing my Topshop cigarette pants to death. I wouldn’t say they’re my favourite piece but they do work for any occassion. Not bad for £22!
  6. If you could be one other person for a day who would it be and why? I’d love to know what it feels like to be one of the most influential people in the fashion world. I’d step into the shoes of one of the super bloggers, major stylists or perhaps Grace Coddington- she has the best job in the world!
  7. If you could go back in time which point would you chose and why? Woodstock 1969- actually just any point in the 1960s or 1970s. I think the world was going through such a major change back then and young people had so much hope for the future. Something we’re lacking today- which is really sad!
  8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? I hope to be in a job I am passionate about in a city I can call home. Apart from that I wouldn’t ask for anything more! Oh actually I want really long hair too..
  9. What is your pet hate?  I have a lot of things that wind me up but I’d probably say I don’t understand why people choose to be difficult at work. I mean we all have to spend most of our week there, why can’t we just make it easy for each other?
  10. Name 3 things that are on your bucket list and why? This is a big one that covers a lot but see the world- experience everything good and bad! Try some really unusual foods. And do something that really scares me such as jumping out of a plane.

My Questions for you are…

1. When did you start blogging and why?
2. If you could meet one person (living or dead) who would it be and what would you ask them?
3. One book or film that influenced your life in a major way and how?
4. If you could visit any destination in the world where would you go and what would you do there?
5. Your hopes and dreams for the next 10 years?
6. Your dream career and your nightmare job?
7. All time favourite album/ piece of music?
8. Who/ what is your biggest creative influence?
9. Your all time favourite piece of clothing?
10. If you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life what would you choose?

These are the rules…

You must link back to the person who tagged you
You must answer all the questions above

looking out the dirty old window

//Shirt- Topshop/  Vest- Topshop/ Jeans-Zara/ Boots- New Look//

Evening Everybody! I wore this outfit when we went to Yo Sushi for dinner on Monday- they do Blue Mondays which is great (plates for £2.50). We ate SO MUCH. I just wanted to wear something really comfortable so I apologise if these are items you’ve seen so many times before but yeah…. My hair was dirty as you can see so I tied it up in a little hipster bun which is my dirty hair hairstyle! I actually was gifted this shirt from a friend a long time back and haven’t worn it a lot but when I get it out I remember how much I love it.
I’ve done a huge Asos sale shop tonight and I’m so massively excited for it’s arrival and may do a little haul post to share my excitement with you!
Hope you’ve had a wonderful Thursday.

Yves Saint Laurent A/W 14 Inspired Make Up

^A rare make up photo of me smiling!^

Hey Lovelies! Ah the ’60s inspired cat eye. Similar to the classic fifties look only extreme and so much edgier. I do love a 60’s smokey eye don’t get me wrong but for me this is where it’s at! I am a little in love with YSL’s Autumn/ Winter campaign in general. I really liked Louis Vuitton’s S/S 13 collection but this is darker and I adore that… Anyway enough about the fashion…

I have used my Loreal Gel Liner and my M&S Autograph Eyeliner brush (which is surprisingly good) to create the basic shape and filled in my entire lid. I like the slick shiny look it’s given. I then created a more precise outline with my Bourjois Felt Tip Liner. I’m wearing Eyelure Definition no 101 lashes. I didn’t fill my brows in as the girls have fairly natural eyebrows in the campaign. This was really strange for me and as I’m growing them in right now they’re super messy- Arr I don’t like it!

I’d also like to mention my Topshop Cream Blush in Head over Heels . I’ve been obsessed with it lately and it’s such a beautiful colour, I’ll do a post on it as these photos don’t do it justice. I’m wearing Topshop Lipstick in Mink which I can’t find online. It’s a lovely dark nude colour, although I would probably use something lighter if I wore this again.

In other news its pay day! Finally! I’m holding out on spending money until my store discount kicks in in September so that I can do a big make up shop and save some pennies.

What are you splurging on this month? Let me know!

// Hat- Primark/ Jumper- Topshop/ Necklace- Primark/ Watch- Urban Outfitters/ Jeans- Missguided //

Hi Everybody! It’s sort of strange for me posting twice in two days! I’ve been off today so I thought I’d do something productive with my time. I’ve been after a pair of flared jeans for so long (ok it hasn’t been very long but when you can’t find something you want well that’s upsetting!). These were in the Missguided sale- score! There called Farrah jeans- very clever Missguided. They’re stretchy and super high waisted, which off course you can’t see here. I’m wearing very tall shoes on these pictures, I’m quite petite so these jeans are like the longest trousers in the world on me. I’ll have to take them up as I do want the option of wearing them with flats too.
Hope you’re having a lovely Sunday!

paint it black

Hello Lovelies! Just a quick outfit post as I’m mega tired from work today, even though all I’ve done is sat on a computer. Makes a change from usual though. I’m not going out tonight, I’ll probably fall asleep really early but if I was going out this is what I’d wear.

It’s like one week until Autumn begins so all black is completely acceptable. I actually completely forgot I had these trousers- I found them in my wardrobe last week and was very happy to rediscover them. The only thing is the zip comes undone repeatedly throughout the day so I’m constantly flying low when I wear them… oh dear. My accessories are really simple. I know some people might feel hoop earrings are chavvy but I really love them (sorry not sorry)! I rarely wear heels unless I’m doing something that requires me to look smart so I always go for a pair that are really versatile. These Primark boots go with everything so that’s excellent. I’m also really loving the messy ballerina bun right now as you can see.

In other news I’m feeling very happy to see sixties inspired fashion popping up everywhere. Not that it makes a difference as I love the whole Edie Sedgwick/ Jane Birkin/ Marianne Faithfull look despite the current trends. But at least I’ll appear cool for now hehe.

Have a lovely weekend everyone! Eleanor xxx

five beauty repurchases

I’m not a huge fake wearer. As my skin is so pale to start with it always comes out a strange yellowy orange colour on me. My friend Anna brought this 60 minute tan to my house when she visited and left it here as she didn’t find the colour deep enough. I have noticed it has really mixed reviews; for me it makes my skin look skin kissed but not orange. And it takes 60 minutes to develop making life really easy! It does absorb instantly so it can be a little difficult to see where you’re applying it. Despite that, I’ll definitely buy this when it runs out.

This product was recommended to me by a hairdresser- which is always a good start. I’m currently trying to grow my hair and for a long time it was really badly damaged. I really can’t praise this treatment enough for improving my hair. I use a few pumps on wet hair and leave it to dry but I know Argan Oil has various application methods so I guess you can use it however you prefer. I noticed some reviews on the Boots website claiming £12.99 was pricey for a hair treatment but I disagree. I actually think it’s really good value.

I’ve loved this perfume for years and years! I recently bought a big bottle of it in the airport so it can go on the list. The scent is kind of floral and fruity, which is just the sort of thing I like in a perfume. Definitely an old favourite.

I use this pretty much everyday as I get such a shiny face within about 2 hours of leaving the house. It doesn’t make my skin look too matt or powdery, it just leaves a really perfect finish. I also love how it doesn’t dry out my skin- something I’ve had trouble with. Although I use it everyday, it lasts well and as I now get my store discount on MAC products is really good value. I was using shade NC15 for years but last time I went to repurchase I was recommended to go lighter. NC5 does look a lot better on my skin so I’m happy.

As a teenager I loved Benefit’s Bad Gal mascara. I think it was my first make up buy which wasn’t Rimmel or Barry M. When they released they’re real! I was so excited to try it. Recently I’ve been experimenting with brands and have found other mascaras I really like but I came back to this and remembered how much I loved it. It does give the illusion of false lashes; I’m a fan of stand out lashes so that’s perfect. I actually forgot how long it lasted- it just does not budge! I sometimes have to use a lot of make up remover which maybe isn’t a good thing but is testament to it’s staying power.
Hope you enjoyed this! I would like to do more top 5 beauty product lists so let me know your thoughts. What are your beauty favourites?
Happy Thursday! Love Eleanor xxx

love will tear us apart again

//Coat- Primark/ Jumper- Topshop/ Trousers- Topshop/ Hat- Urban Outfitters/ Trainers- New Look/ Watch- Michael Kors//

Good Evening! I’m a little blue obsessed right now, which is lucky as there is a lot of blue around right now (and red, I love a bit of red). I got this beanie hat a while back but haven’t worn it much as I’m not sure I’m a beanie person. I sort of prefer a structured hat. I’m wanting to try some more unusual proportions with my outfits at the moment so I kind of like the fact that none of these pieces look like they fit together. I also wanted to have a go at something new with these cigarette pants which I can’t get enough of.

I decided to go for a bit of Joy Division for my post title as I recently watched a film called Control. It’s a biographical film about the life of Ian Curtis, Joy Division’s lead singer. It really stuck with me for personal reasons and is a good watch if you like depressing indie films set in the 1970s…. which of course I do! Naturally I found Ian Curtis to be a much more suiting style icon than any of the female characters and am now coveting and oversized mac… sigh…

Have a lovely day, much love xxx

gluten free banana muffins

Hey Guys! I’ve been doing some baking! Which I’m always pretty proud of considering I can’t cook with wheat flour. So I though I’d share my proud achievement with you.
My banana muffins are a result of a recipe I adapted from the BBC Food website- I always find some corkers on there! I originally used this to make a banana loaf which was scrummy. It also came out a bit too brown so next time I’ll probably take them out earlier. Chris did eat eight of these within about half an hour of taking them out of the oven so they obviously taste good.

Ingredients- makes 12 muffins
2 1/2 Ripe bananas-mashed (looking rather unappetizing!)
 55g caster sugar
 1 large free range egg
115g gluten free flour- I used Dove’s Farm self raising flour
 55g butter
Handful of sultanas- I also used chopped cherries in banana bread but forgot to buy them this time
1 tsp gluten free baking powder
 A pinch of salt

1. Preheat oven to 180C/ Gas mark 4.
2. Cream the butter and sugar together then add the egg.
3. Mix the mashed bananas into the bowl . Gradually sift the flour, baking powder and salt into the mixture.
4. Fold in the sultanas and chopped cherries.
5. Divide the mixture into 12 muffin cases. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown- so probably a little less based on these bad boys!
6. Leave to cool on a wire rack. Alternatively you can eat the majority of them straight from the oven as Chris did….

^^Yummy scrummy bananay muffins^^

do you want to go to the seaside?

// Duster coat- Primark/ T shirt- Topshop/ Jeans- Miss Selfridge/ Watch- Michael Kors/ Boots- New LookNecklace- Topshop//

Hello lovelies!
My Mam is staying with me for the weekend-she’s in the pictures looking tiny and cute- bless her. Today we did a little exploring in Aberdeen, including the very pretty West End. We also had a little walk along the coast to a little village called Footdee, which as you can see is so adorable. It would be a dream of mine to live somewhere this picturesque on the sea. I do like a city on the coast- the best of both worlds in my opinion, what do you think of Brighton??
I wore my Primark duster coat as the weather has been a little unpredictable up here recently. And yes I am wearing my New Look chelsea boots again but I just can’t get enough of them! How are you handling the trans-seasonal dressing?
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

ASOS Autumn Wishlist

Evening Everyone!
I thought I’d do something new for this post. I’ve made a little Autumn wish list, which actually took me a lot longer to put together than I envisioned! As I found there was so much choice online I narrowed my options down to products available from ASOS. At some point I realised I was picking mostly monochrome clothing- typical! So I felt the need to add some splashes of colour. I can’t believe how well the nail polish and lipstick match each other. Although this is a ‘if money were no object’ list, I think I may have to actually purchase these two products on pay day. I’m a sucker for a pay day make up treat!
I’m going to try and do a gluten free recipe post this weekend. My mother is visiting Aberdeen though so We’ll see how it goes. I’d love to know what you guys are coveting this Autumn?
